And the world keeps on spinning

Hey, readers!

I hope you are all doing well this fine Thursday. Here's a rundown of what's een going on in my life.

Hair, Wigs, and Style
Some of you know that three years ago, I decided to stop chemically relaxing my hair. Despite a few minor set backs, it's grown a bunch, but honestly, I was getting bored with my look. I called it the "librarian look." I was wearing protective styles (hair styles that are maintained for an extended period of time with little to no manipulation of the hair strands), but I really didn't like the way my hair looked. I didn't feel attractive all! Plus, I was tired of dealing with my hair.

For any other naturals out there with crazy shrinkage like me (75%) who desire length, you know that waiting patiently for your hair to grow can be like watching paint dry or water boil. It's just best to put it out of your mind and come back to it later.

So I had asked my friend to put in a sew-in weave for me. This way, I could let my hair rest and not be focused on it all of the time. However, the installation process was so painful, I told her to take the tracks out before she was even finished. There was no way in hell I was going to walk around with my head pounding in pain just for the sake of style. If any hair styling requires you to take pain relievers, something is very wrong!

So she suggested that I try out wearing wigs to see what styles I would like and would fit me the best. I took her up on it, and four months later, I have been loving my wigs. Just loving them! They are the perfect protective style for me. My hair stays moisturized and undisturbed. The versatility and styles are endless. Wearing wigs has allow me to stop obsessing about my hair and just focus on living life. Now I feel like I am finally on track with my hair goals, aiming for APL (arm pit length) by this December.

Well, being the Pisces that I am, I am itching for change again. Question to you ladies. Anyone out there ever used the Maxiglide? I just ordered one last night, because I want to try straightening my hair again. I refuse to go back to relaxers. But occasionally, I want to rock a straight look on my own hair, not just through wigs. I'm going to give this Maxiglide a shot and report back to you on how it works for natural 4a/4b hair. Blackmasterpiece posted a pretty convincing review on the flat iron, and her hair turned out amazingly. Let's hope I get the same results.

Bathroom Update
In other news, my new sink and lighting were installed last weekend. They look great, and the bathroom is really starting to come along! I post pics when the bathroom is near completion.

Sewing UFOs
I have been sewing up a storm lately. Completed projects include:

McCall's 5752 in a black slinky knit

Butterick 5505 View B Backpack in faux alligator skin

Reviews are forthcoming.

I am currently working on Vogue 2850.

Sadly I have no advice to give, but I do have understanding because YES waiting for your hair to grow is a painful task. I am still enjoying mine right now but I totally understand about boredom setting in.

Glad you like the wigs and can't wait to hear about the iron.

A "seasoned" (30+ years in the biz) weaved my hair a few years ago and did a fabulous job resulting in a painfree, enduring, and beautiful result. When she was not available the next next time I wanted my hair done, I tried another styist who pulled, poked, prodded my head declaring "beauty is painful". I made her stop.

I have not tried the Maxiglide. I look forward to reading your
results if you do try it.

Also, congratulations on the completed sewing projects and bathroom makeover. :) Tyna

Maxiglide didn't work well for my 3a-4a mixture of hair on my head. My personal favorite was the Sedu.
I love that Vogue shirt...haven't got the nerve to buy the pattern yet lol

Hi, Peacock Chic! Thanks for stopping by. I really enjoy your sewing creations.

Hi, Tyna. Yeah, there is no way I will pay someone to cause me pain. Unless it's for a medical reason, like resetting a bone or surgery, no ma'am!

Hi, Shawnta! I didn't have have any luck with Sedu, so I'm hoping Maxiglide is my panacea. If not, I'm just going to give up heat all together!

Oh, I meant Solia. That's the one I have, and I am less than impressed with the results. But then again, it's probably my technique that needs the work. We'll see.

I cut my hair recently and still growing it. I was recently asking what to do to it and maybe I'll consider your option of wigs.

Hey let me know how the maxislide works for you. When I stress about my hair I put my wig on also. I am dealing with two types of hair so the best thing for me is the twist outs.

I am loving that backpack!!Can't wait for the reviews.

I totally know what you mean about the librarian look!

It's not so bad when I'm wearing big hoop earrings and something funky but I have to wear glasses (near sighted) to clearly see anything more than two feet away so I usually look much older and sedate, which I hate. (Need funky glasses!) However, it's in the high 90s and low 100s this week so the thought of a wig makes me sweat.

I work inside all day so it's not that bad. I'm also cold-natured...
