Review | Burda WOF 02-2009-102 Jacket

Pattern Description: "The sand colour, épaulettes, bellows pockets and buttoned belt carriers are the safari-style detaIls. Nevertheless, this jacket with voluminous raglan sleeves, notched collar and princess seams exudes lots of urban modernity."

Pattern Sizing: 36-44. I made a 38.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing? YES!!!

Were the instructions easy to follow? NO!!! I used the think people were exaggerating when they said that Burda WOF instructions were cryptic and indecipherable. Well, I got my first taste. In fact, I didn't even follow the directions that much in anticipation of the difficulty.

I made a muslin first, starting with the lining. No problem. I had a hard time trying to figure out the facings though. Just know that the center front has a line for the lining. You need to cut on this line for the lining, adding the seam allowance, and then attach it to the front facing.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love everything about this pattern: the 3/4 length sleeves, the safari styling, the belt loops, the pockets, and the top stitching.

Fabric Used: Silk noil for the fashion fabric and silk jacquard for the lining.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: N/A.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? As frustrated as I got with this pattern, now that I've figured it out, I might sew it again in either black or red!

Conclusion: Awesome jacket! I debuted it this Sunday. It's perfect for the spring or cooler summer evenings. I know I'm going to have so much fun sporting this jacket this year!

Lovely jacket!! I dread Burda patterns but they have some really cute ones so I have to get extra mentally prepared when I decide on doing one.

That came out great! My experience with BWOF patterns, (which is very few pieces) is the same thing as you did, ignore the directions and it'll come out fab.

This jacket is just amazing on you. When I first saw it in Burda, I hesitated, but I will definitely try to sew it. Do you think that linen would be suitable for this jacket ?

Hi, Veronica! Thank you so much for the compliments on the jacket.

Sigrid made this jacket in linen, and her's came out fabulous. Check out her review: http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/readreview.pl?readreview=1&reviewnum=37271
